The WHO estimates that around 15 million people are chronically infected with HDV and that 5% of HBsAg-positive people are also infected with HDV. Co-infection with HDV can lead to severe chronic courses in 70-90% of cases. Although Germany is one of the low-prevalence countries overall, there are high-risk groups in Germany - such as migrants from countries with significant prevalence.

The T-Mog Delta project was a pilot project that focused exclusively on the Mongolian community in Germany, since the prevalence in Mongolia, the country of origin, is highest in the world.

The aim was to reach the vast majority of Mongolians living in Germany in a culture-specific manner and to sensitize them to testing for Hepatitis Delta. In addition, the goal was to design this campaign in such a way that its core elements can be used globally.

In order to achieve this goal, contact was made with the various Mongolian cultural associations. Information materials and a culture-sensitive approach were developed together with their representatives. In the course of the project, further supporters (e.g. the Federal Ministry of Health and the Mongolian Embassy in Germany) were gained, and the opportunity was taken internationally to present the project at the World Hepatitis Summit 2022.

This is just one example of how Kautz5 gUG acts when it comes to educating a very small target group in a targeted and integrative manner.

T-Mog-Delta was financially supported by Myr Pharma.
