The WHO estimates that around 15 million people are chronically infected with HDV and that 5% of HBsAg-positive people are also infected with HDV. Co-infection with HDV can lead to severe chronic courses in 70 - 90 % of cases. Although Germany is one of the low-prevalence countries overall, there are high-risk groups in Germany - such as migrants from countries with significant prevalence.

In order to inform these migrants in a culturally specific and culturally sensitive way, we have sought cooperation with doctors specialising in hepatitis delta and have also initiated cooperation with patient and community representatives from Germany, England, Romania, Turkey, Russia and Mongolia.
